January 2010

It's been so long since our last update that I don't even know what week it is.  I'll figure it out for the next update.  Things are good here in Colorado and we have been skiing as much as possible.  We haven't been taking as many pictures because we got a new video camera for Christmas and I have been working on learning how to use it.  So right here, right now you can view the first Haynes family You Tube video.  Just click on this link to see the Boys at Breck.

I've been doing a bunch of back country skiing this month and have had some good picture days out there.  Here are a few from up on Mt Guyout.

Here's is some of the beautiful dry powder on the way up Guyout.

This is the view from Guyout over the Baldy.

Here is a video of me that I took on the way up to Guyout one day.  Back country skiing on Guyout.

We spent some time down in Crested Butte with Ken & Kim a couple weeks ago.   From Sam...at crested butte we skied and did the jib park and jumps.  So here is the first video from Crest Butte.  Sam is in the black coat and Peter's in green.  Day 1 at CB.

The boys had a ball skiing at Crested Butte with Ken.  It felt like our own private mountain with no lines and great skiing.  Here's the 2nd video of the good times at the Butte Day 2 at CB.

The final video from Crested Butte was my attempt at imitating Bear Grylls.  For those of you not familiar with Bear he has a show called Man vs Wild where he eats many gross things including many bugs.  We had watched several episoodes the night before and I was trying to get the boys to play Bear, but they wouldn't. So I had to.  Bear Grylls surviving Crested Butte

The bug juice was maple syrup and is a great treat poured on to the snow and then scooped up.

Another day while skining up Baldy I came across a trail and area I hadn't been.  It was beautiful as always but had a couple signs that kept me cautious.

Shannon hates when I show her these shots when I get home.  It was a great day of skiing though.  Here's another shot from heading up that day.  I think the foggy look is from the camera being heated up in my pocket.

This past weekend Shannon and I got a night away for our 9th anniversary.  We were very lucky to have Shannon's mom in town for a few days to babysit for us.  Shannon and I went down to the Mt Princeton Hot Springs resort.  On Saturday afternoon we went back country skiing up Mt Princeton.  It was a great afternoon heading up.

Here's a view from the trail heading up.

It was getting dark so we headed down after climbing up about 1000'.  But we always need a shot from our top spot.

Here's a shot of all of Mt Princeton.  Someday it will be another one we make it to the top of.

We spent the evening soaking in the hot springs pools and enjoying a nice dinner.  It was a nice break!  We returned to Breck on Sunday to 6" of new snow which was a welcome suprise since it has been very dry out here lately.  And, Peter J had shoveled the driveway!!

I'm gonna shoot for monthly updates from here on in.  Please let us know what you think of the videos and let us know if there's anything specific you would like to see in the video's or pictures.

    Thinking about you all,
Peter, Shannon, Peter J, Sam & Fleur
